Tirta Empul Temple
If there is magic on this planet; it is contained in water 💦 .
This Ritual Purification was by far one of the best experiences we had in Bali. THE WATER TEMPLE or Tirta Empul is one of the largest and busiest water temples in Indonesia. The temple was founded in 926 A.D. and is dedicated to Vishnu, who is the Hindu god of water. The name of the temple actually means 'holy water spring' in Balinese. These sacred springs are said to have been created by The God Indra and possess curative properties. Bathers come from all over the world to cleans their minds and souls in this fresh blesses water. You first start in the pool on the left and dip yourself under the first water spout. Once you have cleansed yourself under the first spout you join the next queue. You continue this process until you have been cleansed under each of the 30 waterspouts that fill the two purification pools. However, there are two spouts that are meant only for cleansing the dead and are for prohibited to be used by the living for the 'melukat' ritual.
We recommend your trip with this temple! There is something so powerful about the fresh gushing water running over your head and back that leaves your heart and soul feeling blessed. — We also highly recommend having someone take your photo if that’s what you desire but don’t let it be the focus of why you are there. Remember where you ARE is important, not that YOU and your ego happen to be there.
